DIVING
The Maltese Islands' clear blue sea is ideal for scuba diving and all three Islands offer excellent diving centres with reefs, caves & wrecks to make diving in Malta one of the most exciting in the Mediterranean. Many visitors to the Islands obtain their PADI licence here as the calmness of the sea makes for excellent visibility and the wildlife danger risk is extremely low, creating an ultimate location for first time divers and beginners. For more experienced divers, there are other sites including archaeological artefacts, some dating back to WWII and others even going back as far as the Roman era.

The depths of the dives vary from 12-metres (Ghar Lapsi dive) to well over 50-metres (Lantern Point) where you can dive into an underwater tunnel. There are several types of scuba diving courses available by locally licensed diving schools. Divers need to complete a medical statement form prior to any diving indicating fitness to dive.

Depending on the school chosen, rates for initial open water courses vary from E280-E360. Single dives arranged by the school for experienced divers range from E23-E35. Gear for a single dive ranges from E8-E12.

The vast number of sheer cliffs, caves, rocks, wrecks and sandy & rocky sea beds means there is a large variety of fauna and flora to see in the Maltese waters. Groupers, amberjack, bream, octopi, squid, flying fish, stingrays, gurnard, red mullet, parrot fish & moral eel are widely spotted. Rare sights include Tuna, Dolphins & Bonito.
