Malta’s elegant, walled city of Mdina and its suburb, Rabat in the Old City, go back in history more than 4000 years when they formed part of a Roman settlement. It is like being transported in a time capsule to another era of bygone yesteryear.
It was here, in AD60, that the Apostle St Paul was rumoured to have lived whilst shipwrecked. A silent city by day, Mdina’s narrow, curved streets housing bastions and palace courtyards are transformed into a glittering, exotic nightspot where you can enjoy a delicious al-fresco dinner lit up by the hundreds of lamps and lanterns dotting this mysteriously decadent city.
Generally off-limits to car, the city is popularly known as ‘The Silent City’ housing some wonderful examples of Baroque and Norman architecture.
This old medieval capital of Malta rises high above the Maltese Islands and offers panoramic vistas of the city. Many walking tours and scenic bus tours are available to explore this fascinating city at your own pace.
